The mention was minimum, however Flexburger asked Daniel if a "... ununiformed police officer who I honestly think was MacDougall..." was undercover in the jail. At one point, Daniel shares a screenshot of texts between him and MacDougall, where Daniel says that he agrees to meet MacDougall in his office. MacDougall provides Daniel an address to an office in Greenwood Village, Colorado. The building is a shared office building, and the Suite being an official Secret Service office. There is no information about this office, or what it is used for. It is not known what was discussed in the their office, or what was discussed about but possibly about pressing charges to an unknown individual.

Daniel MacDougall was formally on a website called ACAMS, ran by The Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists, a private company. MacDougall's information was abruptly removed from the website, however it was omitted from this user page considering it had his picture. On the evening of April 29, Daniel became inactive on all of his [[Social Media Accounts|social media accounts]], with his last post stating that he was on a bus returning to Boulder. The following morning, he posted on TikTok that he was on his way to the probation meeting, which would be his last social media post before his arrest.

Daniel is well known for making terroristic threats via social media and is speculated to have made over 100 of these threats since 2021. This habit of making threats appeared to escalate in the months leading up to his arrest. A prime example of this trend can be seen in the [[April 6th Meltdown]], in which Daniel repeated the phrase "bomb you!" and "kill you!" threatening to vandalize several government buildings. Even more, in January of the same year, Daniel [[January 26th Hospital Incident|threatened to carry out a mass shooting against a hospital]] after having been [[List of places that have banned Daniel|kicked out]].

These threats would not serve him well in the long run, as the Colorado Police Department was slowly building a case against him, charging him with seven counts of threats, which carries a maximum sentence of '''65 years'''.

In the indictment leading to Daniel's arrest, each threat Daniel made that contributed to his arrest was stated, most notably one wherein Daniel threatened to bomb a non-profit organization. This was soon discovered to be the Developmental Disabilities Resource Center ([[DDRC|DDRC)]]. The DDRC is a non-profit organization that previously helped house Daniel. While the reason behind this threat is unknown, Daniel's threats led to the building being evacuated and searched by bomb-sniffing dogs. The case also included threats to Colorado University and an unspecified state government building. These threats were posted to his Community Tab.

==The Arrest==
Daniel was arrested on the afternoon of April 30, 2024, during his probation meeting. He was booked into the Jefferson County Detention Facility and was ineligible for bail. Before his actual charges were revealed, he was charged with "courtesy housing for another agency." Daniel was transferred to Clear Creek County Jail the next day, where his mugshot was taken. On May 3, [[Clark]], Daniel's former [[Management|manager]], reported in a Discord server that police officers had come to his place of work. Almost instantly afterward, Clark went offline. It was at first assumed that he had been arrested due to allegedly being an accomplice to all of Daniel's threats, as well as having had contact with the Secret Service agent who got Daniel arrested in the first place. This was later proven to be false.

Following hours of silence, Clark resurfaced on Discord with concerning messages. He shared that he had been fired from his job for being "too drunk." Additionally, he was contacted by Bob Proctor, Daniel's mentor, regarding an alleged altercation Daniel was involved in while in custody. This was a revelation nobody knew, as it was thought that since the [[Christmas Day Meltdown]], Bob had officially cut ties with Daniel.

After being contacted by Bob, Clark stepped down as Daniel's manager. In his (at the time) final calls to him, he admitted to Daniel that everything he had done up until that point had been fake, and that he would cease contacting him going forward.<ref>[[Jail Communications#May 6]]</ref>

Shortly after being incarcerated, Daniel had a phone conversation with [[Clark]], his then manager, on May 1. As mentioned in these calls, Daniel was assigned a public defender due to [[Daniel Larson's Finances|not having the means]] to obtain a lawyer. His attorney was soon identified as '''Jared Scott Westbroek.''' According to Daniel, his public defender is attempting to argue that Daniel could not have carried out any of his threats as he lacked the resources to do so; therefore, he should be released.

=== Second and third communication ===
On May 6, motivated by the interaction he had with law enforcement at his workplace, Clark [[Jail Communications#May 6|called]] Daniel, revealing that his entire existence was a lie and that everything he had done up to that point was a fallacy. He also confronted Daniel on his behavior and his pedophilia. This call is the most serious of all of them, with Clark referring to it as the "most important call of his life."

On May 9, Clark reluctantly answered a phone call from Daniel, after being convinced to do so despite an earlier decision to cut all contact. Daniel reached out in hopes of fixing their friendship. Clark remained serious, telling Daniel he had many people to apologize to. This would be the last call Daniel would have for nearly 4 months.

===Motion for Daniel's release===
On May 10, just before Daniel's court hearing, documents were found that detailed how Daniel's public defender, Jared Scott Westbroek, had introduced motion for Daniel's immediate release. However, this motion, along with one filed the day before, was denied by the judge.

These documents requested that Daniel be outfitted with an ankle tracker and placed under mandatory mental health treatment if released. This document also mentions placing Daniel in a halfway house, where he would presumably stay if he were to be released from jail, which has not yet happened.

As of June 29, 2024, this motion remains unresolved.

After the court hearing, the judge, Norman Reid Neureiter, issued an order of detention. This confirmed that Daniel would, in fact, remain in jail after pleading not guilty, as well as the judge demanding that Daniel complete a mandatory mental health evaluation. A psychiatric report for Daniel was filed on July 19, 2024. In this report, it is revealed that Daniel was deemed incompetent for trial and would be institutionalized in an unknown mental health facility in hopes of being evaluated. The court hearing scheduled for September 23, 2024 was canceled. On July 26, an order was issued for Daniel to be institutionalized for a period of no longer than four months. He was also deemed "sexually dangerous" in the order. According to Daniel around this time, he was in the specialized housing unit (SHU).

Daniel also divulges details of his current legal situation, most notably that he was going to be transferred to a psychiatric facility in a different state sometime in the near future, and that he had been in protective custody for up to 2 months at that point.

===September 25 report & transfer request ===
A report was filed on September 25 by Daniel's attorney, Jared Westbroek. Dr. Katlyn Hanson diagnosed Daniel with Level 1 [[Mental Health|autism spectrum disorder, an unspecified schizophrenia spectrum and other psychotic disorder]]. She reported that although Daniel demonstrated an understanding of the charges against him and the potential consequences, he tended to minimize the seriousness of the allegations and she was concerned about his ability to assist his attorney in his defense. When Daniel arrived to MCFP Springfield in December 2024, he remained grounded in his beliefs that he was dating [[Grace]], and would even constantly talk about him and Grace with staff at Springfield and his defense. Dr. Katlyn Hanson stated that this delusional beliefs were strengthened by the [[Lil Sippy|trolls]] who [[Jail Communications|interacted with him]] during his stay in jail, claiming that he received prison mail at Springfield containing screenshots of text messages between him and fake Graces. By February 2025, Daniel began taking antipsychotic medication, which reduced his delusions, and soon enough, he finally acknowledged that Grace had nothing to do with his case.

Dr. Mark Mills testified that Daniel could not be fully restored to competency because his cognitive deficits come from both his autism and borderline intellectual functioning, which are considered untreatable. While his delusions improved with the antipsychotic medication and structured treatment at Springfield, Dr. Mills emphasized that Daniel's autism was the controlling diagnosis, preventing him from fully understanding or interacting with his defense team, or recalling information about the threats he made at the time. Dr. Mills also further noted that although Daniel preferred to be found competent and go to trial, his preference likely reflected his cognitive limitations and tendency to agree rather than a fully informed understanding of the legal proceedings, and that he would be unlikely to recall or explain his mental state at the time he allegedly made the threats.

Daniel's mental health history was also documented extensively. The document indicated that he had been [[Self Harm|hitting himself]] and punching holes in walls since at least 2011, and that he had been hospitalized twice for these behaviors, once in 2017 and again in 2023. Daniel was also reported to have hit his head in FCI Englewood out of frustration. In 2011, Daniel's [[Elisabeth Shimer|mother]] shared that he had a "non-accidental head injury" at three weeks old and had a seizure at five months. Daniel has also claimed that his mother hit him in the head with a hammer when he was eight years old, though the accuracy of this claim is uncertain. His IQ was reported to be 72, which is slightly above the typical threshold for an intellectual disability.

Daniel no longer qualifies for a free attorney, and his previous attorney, Jared Westbroek, withdrew from the case. Daniel had a change of plea hearing on April 9, 2026. During the proceedings, Judge Regina M. Rodriguez reviewed the legal process in detail to ensure Daniel understood, to which he repeatedly responded with "yes, your honor". Judge Rodriguez asked standard biographical questions, including his name, age, and educational background. Daniel stated that he had completed "high school and some college," with his field of study as "music." When asked where he attended school, he responded, "uh… UC… LA Film School," referencing the fake [[UCLA Arc|UCLA classes.]]

Daniel was reported as being more on edge during this hearing. Approximately ten fans/trolls were present in the gallery, including a few CU fraternity members dressed in suits. Observers claimed that Daniel did the angry tongue as he took his seat. It was also reported that Chad Oxman was confused about the number of people in the gallery. Daniel joked about his fame and referenced his music on iHeartRadio. His attorney, Jeffrey Feiler, appeared to be annoyed. The two attempted to help Daniel remain calm and comfortable, and he appeared to lighten the mood, making a remark about "Diet Coke served for lunch," and added that he asked a guard whether it contained cocaine, which was followed by a laugh. Daniel was described as having a slightly grown-out buzz cut and long fingernails, and was noted to have gained a considerable amount of weight.

=== Sentencing and Release ===
On July 8, 2026, two court documents were filed in anticipation for Daniel's sentencing on July 21, 2026. Both documents were submitted by United States attorney Jasand Mock. * Forbidden from setting passwords on his devices.
