On '''April 30, 2024,''' [[Daniel|Daniel Larson]] was [[Daniel and the Law|'''arrested''']] and taken into custody at the Jefferson County Detention Facility. At the time of his arrest, the charges against him were undisclosed, with the listed reason being "courtesy housing for another agency." The following day, Daniel was transferred to the Clear Creek County Jail, where his mugshot was taken shortly after.

It was initially believed that Daniel's arrest was related to multiple probation violations, as in the days leading up to his arrest, Daniel [[Buffalo Wild Wings ejection|defrauded a Buffalo Wild Wings]], and admitted to viewing [[Pedophilia|exploitive material of children]].<ref>[[:File:Daniels Admission.png]]</ref> However, according to a subsequent call made to his manager, [[Clark]], Daniel was arrested for several terroristic threats he had made over the past year at the time. This was the fifth time Daniel had been arrested in 2024 alone, with the most recent occurring [[April 2nd Arrest|just four weeks earlier]]. Unlike previous arrests, Daniel is ineligible for bond, and given the severity of the charges, there is a possibility he will never be granted bond.

At the time of Daniel's arrest, it was believed that his manager, [[Clark]], had been apprehended by authorities at his job due to his association with Daniel over the previous 10 months. On May 31, 2024, Daniel was transferred to [[wikipedia:Federal_Correctional_Institution,_Englewood|Englewood Federal Correctional Institution]]. He was held in a mental health facility for evaluation and was ordered to be institutionalized on July 19 after being found incompetent to stand trial.

On December 6, 2024, Daniel informed [[Lil Sippy]] that he was scheduled to be transferred to the United States Medical Center for Federal Prisoners (MCFP Springfield) in the following week. He was released from Englewood four days later and was transferred to [[wikipedia:Cimarron_Correctional_Facility|Cimarron Correctional Facility]] in Oklahoma, where he stayed for two weeks. On Christmas Eve, he was transferred to Grady County Detention Center for unknown reasons, and three days later was transferred to MCFP Springfield for further mental health evaluation. On January 13, 2026, Daniel was transferred out of MCFP Springfield and placed in the Federal Transfer Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. It remains uncertain whether Daniel will continue to be institutionalized or be released. A pretrial hearing is set for April 9, 2026.

This is one of the most significant events in Daniel's life, considering that he is currently at risk of being imprisoned for up to 65 years if found guilty on all charges, or possibly see himself institutionalized for the rest of his life. ==Background==

During the summer of 2023, Secret Service agent [[Daniel MacDougall]] began investigating Daniel following several terroristic threats, namely one in which he threatened to blow up the White House. This threat in particular came right on the heels of Daniel having had a [[7/11 incident|destructive meltdown]] in a Walmart after having his [[Dog Arc|dog]] taken from him. Law enforcement interrogated both Clark, his then-manager, and members of Daniel's management to verify the threats he had made over the years. On April 25, 2024, a warrant was issued for Daniel's arrest. This was thought to be due to Daniel having violated his probation multiple times, even before the issuing of said warrant. On the evening of April 29, Daniel became inactive on all of his [[Social Media Accounts|social media accounts]], with his last post stating that he was on a bus returning to Boulder. The following morning, he posted on TikTok that he was on his way to the probation meeting, which would be his last social media post before his arrest.

Daniel is well known for making terroristic threats via social media and is speculated to have made over 100 of these threats since 2021. This habit of making threats appeared to escalate in the months leading up to his arrest. A prime example of this trend can be seen in the [[April 6th Meltdown]], in which Daniel repeated the phrase "bomb you!" and "kill you!" threatening to vandalize several government buildings. Even more, in January of the same year, Daniel [[January 26th Hospital Incident|threatened to carry out a mass shooting against a hospital]] after having been [[List of places that have banned Daniel|kicked out]].

These threats would not serve him well in the long run, as the Colorado Police Department was slowly building a case against him, charging him with seven counts of threats, which carries a maximum sentence of '''65 years'''.

In the indictment leading to Daniel's arrest, each threat Daniel made that contributed to his arrest was stated, most notably one wherein Daniel threatened to bomb a non-profit organization. This was soon discovered to be the Developmental Disabilities Resource Center ([[DDRC|DDRC)]]. The DDRC is a non-profit organization that previously helped house Daniel. While the reason behind this threat is unknown, Daniel's threats led to the building being evacuated and searched by bomb-sniffing dogs. The case also included threats to Colorado University and an unspecified state government building. These threats were posted to his Community Tab.

==The Arrest==
Daniel was arrested on the afternoon of April 30, 2024, during his probation meeting. He was booked into the Jefferson County Detention Facility and was ineligible for bail. Before his actual charges were revealed, he was charged with "courtesy housing for another agency." Daniel was transferred to Clear Creek County Jail the next day, where his mugshot was taken. On May 3, [[Clark]], Daniel's former [[Management|manager]], reported in a Discord server that police officers had come to his place of work. Almost instantly afterward, Clark went offline. It was at first assumed that he had been arrested due to allegedly being an accomplice to all of Daniel's threats, as well as having had contact with the Secret Service agent who got Daniel arrested in the first place. This was later proven to be false.

Following hours of silence, Clark resurfaced on Discord with concerning messages. He shared that he had been fired from his job for being "too drunk." Additionally, he was contacted by Bob Proctor, Daniel's mentor, regarding an alleged altercation Daniel was involved in while in custody. This was a revelation nobody knew, as it was thought that since the [[Christmas Day Meltdown]], Bob had officially cut ties with Daniel.

After being contacted by Bob, Clark stepped down as Daniel's manager. In his (at the time) final calls to him, he admitted to Daniel that everything he had done up until that point had been fake, and that he would cease contacting him going forward.<ref>[[Jail Communications#May 6]]</ref>

Shortly after this call was conducted, a final call was made between Clark and Daniel.<ref>[[Jail Communications#May 9]]</ref> In texts to Clark, Bob stated that Daniel wanted to have a man-to-man talk with Clark.<ref>[[:File:BobClarkText3.png]]</ref>

==The Charges==
Daniel is currently facing serious legal charges. Initially, he was facing six counts of "Use or Threatened Use of Explosive" and one count of "Interstate Communication of Threats." Each "Use or Threatened Use of Explosive," charge carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison. Shortly after being incarcerated, Daniel had a phone conversation with [[Clark]], his then manager, on May 1. As mentioned in these calls, Daniel was assigned a public defender due to [[Daniel Larson's Finances|not having the means]] to obtain a lawyer. According to Daniel, his public defender is attempting to argue that Daniel could not have carried out any of his threats as he lacked the resources to do so; therefore, he should be released.

On May 6, motivated by the interaction he had with law enforcement at his workplace, Clark [[Jail Communications#May 6|called]] Daniel, revealing that his entire existence was a lie and that everything he had done up to that point was a fallacy. This call is the most serious of all of them, with Clark referring to it as the "most important call of his life."

On May 9, Clark reluctantly answered a phone call from Daniel, after being convinced to do so despite an earlier decision to cut all contact. Daniel reached out in hopes of fixing their friendship. Clark remained serious, telling Daniel he had many people to apologize to. This would be the last call Daniel would have for nearly 4 months.

===Motion for Daniel's release===
On May 10, just before Daniel's court hearing, documents were found that detailed how Daniel's public defender, Jared Scott Westbroek, had introduced motion for Daniel's immediate release. However, this motion, along with one filed the day before, was denied by the judge.

These documents requested that Daniel be outfitted with an ankle tracker and placed under mandatory mental health treatment if released. This document also mentions placing Daniel in a halfway house, where he would presumably stay if he were to be released from jail, which has not yet happened.

As of June 29, 2024, this motion remains unresolved.

After the court hearing, the judge, Norman Reid Neureiter, issued an order of detention. This confirmed that Daniel would, in fact, remain in jail after pleading not guilty, as well as the judge demanding that Daniel complete a mandatory mental health evaluation. ===July 19 Competency Report===
A psychiatric report for Daniel was filed on July 19, 2024. In this report, it is revealed that Daniel was deemed incompetent for trial and would be institutionalized in an unknown mental health facility in hopes of being evaluated. The court hearing scheduled for September 23, 2024 was canceled. On July 26, an order was issued for Daniel to be institutionalized for a period of no longer than four months. He was also deemed "sexually dangerous" in the order. According to Daniel around this time, he was in the specialized housing unit (SHU).

Messages to her mother indicate that Grace and her family do not wish to have contact with Daniel or anybody associated with him. Throughout the video, he hit his head and made threats against his own life. While he did not act on these threats, the episode marked the first notable instance of a meltdown. Daniel claimed that if he did not get in contact with the VanderWaal family, he would end up homeless. Although relatively minor at the time, the incident foreshadowed more severe delusional behavior in the future.

Afterwards, Daniel uploaded a video to YouTube mourning the supposed deaths of Grace, and her father Dave. In this video, he expressed the belief that Grace had both committed suicide and suffered a heart attack simultaneously. Daniel became upset on his Community Tab page, making threats and attempting to text 9-1-1 a screenshot of his conversation. However, Daniel uploaded and deleted a YouTube short, calling her the [[Self Defense Word|N-word]], and saying how he will always hate her. Later, Daniel went live on YouTube in a full-blown meltdown, repeatedly punching himself in the head, slamming his head into a wall, and wishing death upon Grace.

== Delusions while Incarcerated ==
Daniel's obsession with Grace persisted even while incarcerated, as evidenced by phone calls with Clark and Lil Sippy.

During the first Jail Arc, Daniel admitted that he continued to think about Grace to calm himself, with delusions that she was shocked by the news, that she and Tina might bail him out, and that he was still on track to get an apartment with her.

When Daniel was arrested for federal crimes, his delusions about Grace showed no sign of stopping. During the first call of the Second Jail Arc, he mentioned messages from Tina scolding him to stop talking about her, but he also maintained the delusion that he was engaged to Grace and his desire to reach out to her. In the next call, Clark confronted him, emphasizing that Grace did not want any contact with him, considered him a creep, and that Tina was only telling him to back off while calling out his delusions and inappropriate behavior. However, months later, he called Clark again, maintaining the delusion that he would have a wedding with Grace upon his release, demonstrating that repeated attempts to confront him with reality are never successful.

Daniel believed this to be genuine and attempted to convince "Grace" to move to Denver, where she could press charges against her father and live with him.

The messages initially showed Daniel expressing genuine concern for "Grace’s" well-being, asking how he could help. However, the conversation quickly took a disturbing turn, with Daniel proceeding to ask "Grace" '''''what it felt like to be raped and what she thought about during the assaults'''''—seemingly desperate to imagine her engaging in intercourse. Daniel later claimed that he asked these questions to gather information for use in court, though this is highly unlikely, as no legal action followed.

Whenever this fake "Grace" spoke about the alleged assaults, they claimed the incidents were being recorded and uploaded to a social media or pornographic website, which led Daniel to express interest in finding and viewing the supposed footage. Following this exchange, he made multiple videos stating that he had contacted the police regarding the situation. In reference to delusions, Daniel is known to have delusions of grandeur, as well as delusions of persecution. The one mental failing that debilitates Daniel the most is his downright refusal to adapt to his environment and accept help when he needs it. This stubbornness, more than anything else, is what makes him so frustrating to watch. While Daniel has expressed several times that he desires help for his several problems, he always refuses it when it does not align with his delusions. During a conversation with his manager [[Ox]], when he was informed that every time he spoke to "Grace" he was speaking to a troll, he seemed to only acknowledge it in order to get Ox to stop talking to him. Daniel complains multiple times about not receiving help, even though he has received multiple items such as changes of clothes and hygiene products (which he often throws away), as well as large amounts of money, all because of the hospitality of others.

Despite being told multiple times by multiple people to buy more affordable meals so he would not have to deal with the consequences of [[dine and dashes]], Daniel refused and continued to buy food wildly out of his price range, suffering [[Daniel and the Law|legal consequences]] due to defrauding restaurants he went to.

It is very obvious that Daniel values his [[delusions]] over his own well-being, because if he actually chose to accept the help of others, and follow the rules of establishments and places he stays at, he would have been in housing a very long time ago, or even more, not be [[Homeless Era|homeless]] at all.

[[Spiddlekick Interview|As noted]], Daniel was regularly medicated during his time attending school at and living at the [[Tennyson Center]]. He claimed that once a month, students would meet with a doctor to prescribe and check on the effects of medication supplied to them. Given Daniel's documented violence, both [[November 6th Arrest|then]] and [[April 6th Incident|now]], it is likely that he was put on some type of antipsychotic by the center.

While the quality of "help" can be debated, Daniel is no stranger to stays at psychiatric hospitals. During the conclusion of the [[Dog Arc]], Daniel was put into a psych ward following him having a [[The 7/11 Incident|meltdown in a Walmart]], as well as calling the police multiple times to "get his situation heard." While it is unknown if he was truly given medication, a voice note that surfaced during his stay depicts a very medicated sounding Daniel. It is most likely that he was given antipsychotics during his week-long stay.

He was found competent on March 3, 2026, and his mental health history was documented.
