Born in Michigan to parents Saleen (sometimes spelled Saleem) Essa Kiswiney, a manager at a grocery store (1909-1983) and Rameses (sometimes referred to as Ramsa) Sarah Kallie (née Kiswiney), an elementary school teacher (1910-1976). Nancy was the youngest of 3 children.
