Help:Getting started
Welcome to the lolcow.city Wiki. Explore person profiles, timelines, and related articles, or contribute sourced information.
Start with a profile
Choose a page from the profile directory. Add a short introduction, cite the material it is based on, and list relevant public accounts or archives. Keep unverified details out of the introduction until sources are available.
Edit a page
- Create an account or sign in. Confirm your email address to unlock editing.
- Open a profile and choose Edit or Edit source.
- Add the information and its source. Preview the change, enter a short edit summary, and publish it.
For an inline reference, add <ref>Source title, URL, and date.</ref> after the statement it supports. References appear in the page's Sources section.
Create a related page
Open a profile's Related pages tab and give the new page a title. The default Related page format is a general article about any connected subject: a topic, project, location, event, background information, or more. Add headings to fit the subject. Incident report and Research notes are optional starters. See Help:Profile subpages for examples and instructions.
Add a timeline event
Open Special:PageTimeline and enter the profile's page name, or use the Timeline link on the main page. Choose Add event, enter the date, description, and source, preview it, and save.
Each timeline belongs to its profile and is stored at Profile name/Timeline. Confirmed editors can manage events; administrators manage locks. A timeline is created when its first event is saved.
Search results and sharing previews
Page titles, descriptions, and images are selected automatically. See Help:Search and sharing for image selection and optional preview overrides.
Improve the homepage
- The homepage automatically lists up to nine recently updated profiles, followed by an Add your lolcow card. Profile, timeline, and related-page edits count.
- Edit Main Page to update its introduction or navigation.
- The homepage layout is controlled by Template:Main page/styles.css.
