Help:Page building blocks
Use these shared building blocks on articles and sub-wiki home pages. They work with the site's normal skin, dark mode, mobile layout, references and revision history.
Insert and edit a box
- Open an article in Edit.
- Choose Add a box in the editor toolbar. Pick a box using its preview and description.
- Fill its labeled fields. Leave unused fields empty. In the source editor, Preview shows the rendered box before you choose Insert box. In VisualEditor, finish with Insert or Apply changes.
- To change it later, select the box and choose Edit.

Categories and subcategories
Use Create a category in the sidebar. Enter a descriptive category name and, optionally, a parent category. Choosing a parent makes the new category its subcategory. The description explains which pages belong there.
Inside a sub-wiki, open All pages, then Categories and subcategories. Create a subcategory pre-fills that sub-wiki's main category as the parent. You can add further levels by using an existing subcategory as the parent.
To put an article in a category, open VisualEditor's page options menu and choose Categories. In source editing, add at the bottom of the article. A page can belong to several categories. Category pages use MediaWiki's normal edit and history tools, so their descriptions and parent relationships can be changed later.
Images, galleries, videos and tabs
- Use Insert, then Images and media for an uploaded image. Use Gallery for a group of images and captions.
- Existing video embeds and
vidtabmedia tabs remain available. See the site's media tools for supported services. - Add citations with the editor's Cite control or ordinary reference markup.
- Use sortable wiki tables for lists of dates, releases, accounts or other structured information.
- Lua modules, TemplateStyles and Page Forms are available for more advanced reusable components.
Article layouts and sub-wiki navigation
Use Page options to choose an article layout and independently turn its timeline on or off. Template:Page layout supplies introduction, photo, facts and topic-link fields for the Profile and Overview layouts. Sub-wiki home pages can combine panels, navigation boxes and topic cards while retaining normal wiki editing.
Each sub-wiki has its own paginated article directory, category view and recent-edit view. The recent-edit view includes its home, nested pages and their timelines. Use Explore sub-wikis to choose one.
