Buddy trolling is a trolling tactic that involves befriending the victim in order to gain their trust and mess with them in the long run. This practice is widely frowned upon, as this generally involves enabling the victim's bad, harmful behaviors and delusions. Marty has often been criticized due to him cozying up to highly controversial people for questionable and/or nebulous reasons, such as [[Jasmine]] and [[TheWhiteBowser]]. The latter, in peculiar, was especially shocking, as TheWhiteBowser is a known predator and groomer who has been caught several times acting inappropriately around minors online. Yet, Marty not only provides him a platform but outright praises and defends him<ref>https://youtu.be/yVk1fMb0Qs4?t=5641</ref>. This generated significant backlash, as this essentially amounted to Marty enabling a dangerous egomaniac for purposes which remain unclear at best, but only had for effect of tarnishing his reputation if anything.
