Chance was born as the second child in Alaska to [[Connie Lobdell]] and [[Ruple Smith]], and was originally named Patrick Smith. He faced numerous [[Health and Appearance|health complications]] from birth, including being born prematurely, underweight, with one kidney, an underdeveloped lung, scoliosis, and a whole assortment of other health issues due to Connie drinking when she was pregnant with him which may have gave him FASD, although Chance does not display most of the facial characteristics of FASD. It's also possible that his ailments are entirely just bad genetics as [[Gordon Wilkins|Gordon]], her stepfather, claimed she was not a drinker and was mentally impaired.<ref name=":2">https://youtu.be/hB6t6_WyOlI</ref>

Chance's brother, the couple's first child, was taken away by the state of Alaska around the time that Chance was born.<ref name=":0">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsEzaQsuMfs</ref> Whether Chance was taken away with his brother or was taken away when he was four, when his father Ruple was incarcerated for raping a 14-year-old girl on a bike path, or if he was taken alongside his brother isn't exactly clear.  

Regardless, the Alaskan authorities removed him from Connie's custody - who couldn't take care of him due to her disabilities - and entrusted him to his grandmother, [[Sally Arntzen]], who relocated him to somewhere around Atlanta. Sally, who was then married to Gordon Wilkins, made the decision to change his name to Chance Wilkins soon after.<ref name=":0" />

Chance opened his first known Youtube channel, Chance Wilkins, on April 2, 2012.<ref>https://web.archive.org/web/20240714174031/https://www.youtube.com/@chancewilkins5625/videos</ref> His first and only upload on this channel, which was made a few months after [[Kansas Incident|beating up Sally]], was a skating music video called "Its So Delicious Demo DJ shadowBlad FT The Pozzezzed one"<ref>https://odysee.com/@UnofficialCyraxArchive:b/2012-4-3-Its-So-Delicious-Demo-DJ-shadowBlad-FT-The-Pozzezzed-one:0</ref> on the 3rd of April, 2012. The music video isn't actually that bad but was definitely carried by the other person featured in the video, who is presumably "the Pozzezzed One," as the Pozzezzed One would never make another appearance on his channel.

Around this time, Chance adopted the name Cyraxx, which he became commonly known as. Both the names DJ ShadowBlayde and Cyraxx were stolen from an actual musician who signed him onto his label out of pity named [[Erik Scrubbalo]], who had involvement with a label named "Killer Clown Sounds," a music label managed by [[Juggalos]]. Cyraxx had also used several other aliases around that time too, including Viruz, Psyraxx, DK CUSTOMS/CUSTOMZ, and DJ Otaku,<ref name=":0" /> most of which were Juggalo or [[Anime]] inspired.

Cyraxx's next known videos, which were uploaded months later in June, was a two-part personal vlog series titled "Inside the Shadow."
