Help:Search and sharing

Search snippets and social previews are built automatically from each page's title, introduction, and main image.

Write a useful introduction

Start an article with a short, sourced paragraph explaining its subject. The first meaningful paragraph supplies the preview description. Construction notices, navigation, and citation numbers are skipped.

Add a representative image

Add an uploaded image to the article, ideally near the introduction or in its infobox. The wiki selects a suitable page image automatically and uses it for link previews. A large, relevant image works best; aim for at least 1,200 pixels wide when available. Small icons are skipped. Pages without a suitable image use a branded card containing the page name.

Add meaningful alternative text when inserting images so readers can understand what they show.

Optional preview overrides

Most pages do not need extra markup. To choose a specific title, description, or uploaded image, add the fields you need to the page source:

{{#seo:
|title=Article title – lolcow.city Wiki
|description=A concise description that accurately summarizes this page.
|image=Uploaded image filename.jpg
|image_alt=A short description of the image
}}

Use an existing uploaded filename for the image. Omit fields you want the wiki to select automatically.

When changes appear

The wiki updates its metadata when a page is viewed after saving. Google and social networks may retain older previews until they crawl the URL again. Google can choose a different title or description for a particular search.
