Help:Profile subpages
Keep reports and background articles under the profile they concern. Each page has its own edit history and discussion page.
Create a related page
- Choose Create a page in the sidebar, or open a profile's Related pages tab.
- Choose Incident report, Research notes, or Related article, then select the related profile.
- Enter just the report or topic title, without the person's name or any slashes.
- Choose Start editing. Complete the starter sections, add sources, preview, and save.
The visual editor opens with starter sections and profile links already set up. Use source editor is available if you prefer wikitext. The form shows the full page name before you continue, and links to an existing page if that title is taken. Nothing is published until you save in the editor. Confirmed editors can create pages; normal page protection applies.
How pages are organized
| Page type | Saved page name |
|---|---|
| Incident report | Person/Incidents/Report title
|
| Research notes | Person/Research/Topic
|
| Related article | Person/Topic
|
The directory groups saved pages automatically. Each subpage displays its type and a link back to the profile. Categories are added automatically from the page's location. Use the normal Move tool to rename a page or change its location; the directory follows its new name.
Add another profile
Open Create a page, choose Person profile, enter the person's name, and choose Start editing. The starter adds [[Category:Profiles]] for you. This enables the profile's Related pages tool. The main page is a directory and cannot be a profile.
Timelines
A profile's timeline remains at Person/Timeline. Timelines are separate from the related-page directory. Articles and incident reports can have their own timelines too. The main page cannot have a timeline.
Choose an article's Timeline tab, then Add event. Enter a title and description, and use the year, month, and day fields for as much of the date as you know. Leave all three blank for an unknown date. Wiki formatting works in descriptions; Preview lets you check the result without saving.
Use Add another source to attach multiple source links to the same event (up to 20). Each link can be removed separately, and duplicate links are removed automatically. Existing single-source events keep their links when edited.
Choose Edit beside an event to update it. More contains Move to trash; Undo brings it back immediately, and the Trash view lets you restore it later. Confirmed editors can edit and restore events. Administrators manage event locks. Use the search and order controls to find events in longer timelines.
